Sri Aurobindo Ashram


Sri Aurobindo ashram is located on the marine street of Pondicherry. It is one of the most well-known and wealthiest ashrams in south India. People from all over the world especially foreigners visit Pondicherry to spend time in a serene ambience filled with peace.

About Sri Aurobindo and the Mother

To feel a spiritual vibe and spend life in yoga and meditation, many people from various countries come and live here in Pondicherry near Sri Aurobindo ashram. The ashram is named after the man Sri Aurobindo who was once a politician and then he became a follower of spiritual science.

Sri Aurobindo ashram was initiated by him and his disciples. Sri Aurobindo even withdrawal from the view of public in order to concentrate on his spiritual work. Sri Aurobindo ashram is present only in the white town of Pondicherry near the beach. A lady named Mira Alfassa, who was a poet, became another major follower and individual spiritualist in Sri Aurobindo ashram called the Mother. She created Auroville with the help of Sri Aurobindo which became an international township. The Auroville was dedicated to Human unity. Auroville in Pondicherry is the exact place for deep meditation.

Sri Aurobindo Ashram and devotees

When Sri Aurobindo and Mother were alive, they had many followers and devotees. The ashram started becoming famous and the devotees were maintaining Art galleries, playgrounds, libraries and offices and guest houses. The mother and Sri Aurobindo used to give darshans for lots of their devotees and followers during a year. When Sri Aurobindo and the mother were living in Pondicherry, they were living in one corner building near the beach. As Sri Aurobindo ashram became popular, the buildings were extended.

The appearance of Ashram gives an exact view of an open spaced meditation place. It is arranged with Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and mother at the centre. The Samadhi is covered with flowers entirely. People visiting the ashram used to pray by laying their hand on Samadhi and then meditate for a while in Sri Aurobindo ashram. Enormous people visit this ashram during a day and the vibe of exact silence and peace is felt here!

Charitable trust and publication of Ashram

Sri Aurobindo ashram has a public charitable trust open to all with no considerations regarding nationality, religion and caste and such prohibitions and rules are followed till date. This trust was found in 1955 and had 5 trustees in which the mother was one of them.

The publication of ashram involves the ashram book which explains the works of Sri Aurobindo and the mother. Publication of ashram is since 1950. The ashram publishes hundreds of books related to the mother, Aurobindo and their collections. It also has books related to yoga from other publishers too. The main of this ashram is to emphasise greater life of spirit and practise yoga. Divine power and presence in the heart of every individual creates peace.
