A crucifix is fixed upon the shrine that looks freestanding. In the centre passage of the church, interior designs contain a dome that is surrounded by arches. Side walls are shelved and occupy wooden images that are brightly painted and glasses as perfect furniture work is done. The front view of the church possess and looks like twin spires an entire church is painted with vivid yellow and white colours so as a heavenly and holy place.
History and events of this church
Our lady of good health is the church that is very fame among the pilgrimage of Pondicherry nearly for the past 270 years. During the rule of French in Pondicherry, this church was the final pone that was given to Jesuits to take care and maintain. This church is also believed to be equal to the church in Velankani that is being celebrated by the Roman Catholic period. The Mary in this church is named as Blessed Virgin Mary and nativity of this Mary is celebrated as the feast day every year on September 8th.
For this feast day, people start fasting and enjoying with festive day’s starting from august that will be ending at the time of Christmas and New Year. Our lady of good health church is a prominent place in tourist attractions of Pondicherry that is well known for its realistic aura. Regular mass on every Sundays will be held in this church and moreover, it has specific mass timings that start from 6.00 am and timings on various days according to festive and special days.
