The Statue of Dupleix is one of the famous tourist attractions in Pondicherry. The statue is dedicated to Francois Dupleix who had been the Governor General of French establishment in India. Dupleix had been the French governor here in Pondicherry between 1742 and 1754. This statue is a beautiful example of French architecture.

About Dupleix Statue
Dupleix was born in France in a place known as Landrecies. Dupleix Statue is built in the privilege of Dupleix in 1870. There are tangled granite columns that can be seen while visiting the statue of Dupleix. It is placed in a serene place where it is very near to the beach and sea shore and the harbour fascinating view is admired from the place of this statue. Dupleix statue was initially planned to build by Napoleon.
Tourists, visitors and people from Pondicherry take a pleasant walk in the evening from the Dupleix statue till the Kargil war memorial. Within this walk, there are a lot of tourist places in Promenade beach that mainly includes this statue as he most fascinating and attractive place.
Dupleix, the governor general of Pondicherry left this place by 1754, but his contribution came to French recognition by inaugurating two statues in France and Pondicherry in 1870.Now this statue is found near the end of Promenade beach on Goubert Avenue.

The statue shows that Dupleix is a man of the commander as his face resemblance shows that with a large nose and massive under the jaw. The statue is made in a way such that he has a plan of Pondicherry on his right hand and a hilt of his sword on the left and finally he is dressed in a curt dress along with long riding boots on his legs then with bag wig.
His full name is Joseph Francois Dupleix that is named along with his father’s name and now in Pondicherry, his statue is surrounded by a children’s park that is amazing and a place where children enjoy a green atmosphere. During his tenure of administration, he has helped a lot of poor people so he is known for his kind-hearted character among the people in Pondicherry and France.
